Hypothyroid Help Sheet for Dogs and Cats

A copy of this information is included with your package purchase!

1). Daily Multi Plus

This is the supplement that provides the enzymes and probiotics necessary for proper digestion and immune system health. It also provides organic, whole food nutrition to improve the overall health of your dog or cat.

How much should I give?
Provide 1/2 teaspoon in each meal per 30 lbs. Mix with water so it is not dry. Serving size does not have to be exact. Err on the side of more rather that less.

How long should I provide this supplement?
This supplement should be given with every meal for the life of your pet.

2). Hypothyroid Tonic

This is a highly-researched herbal formula that provides adaptogens to increase overall vitality. It also helps to support areas affected by low thyroid hormones like the heart and skin.

How much should I give?
Provide 1 ml per 25 lbs three times daily. Squirt directly into mouth by pulling out lower lip at corner of mouth. Do not tilt head back because your pet can breath some in. If this is difficult dosage can be placed in a small amount of special food or even main meals if necessary. It is best to give away from meals when possible. When your animal’s condition improves you may be able to reduce the frequency to two times daily. On the other hand if your animal does not respond as hoped increase the dosage by 50% three times daily.

How long should I provide this supplement?
Use daily for one month then go on a 5 days on 2 days off schedule. Use this schedule for the life of your animal. If your animal shows a decline on off days you may have to give only one day off weekly or even use daily if necessary depending on your pet’s condition.

3). Thyroid Glandular

Thyroid glandular tissue provides bio-identical nutrients that will help to improve the health of the thyroid gland in a safe and natural manner.

How much should I give?
Provide 1/8 tsp. (approx. 50 mg thyroid tissue) per 25 lbs daily. Divide equally between meals if convenient. For small pets where dividing the dosage would be difficult just place in one meal.

How long should I provide this supplement?
This supplement should be given for the life of your pet.

4). Biopreparation F3 Forte

This supplement is a highly researched blend of micro-algae that feeds cells on a cellular level. It crosses the digestive tract without the need for digestion and is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and retinal barrier. For these reasons it has an amazing ability to bring nutrients directly to thyroid cells benefiting dogs with this condition tremendously.

How much should I give?
Select the F3 Forte for this condition because it is more concentrated than the F2. Use the chart below for dosage for your size animal.

Other Recommendations

Whole food diet high in moisture and low in carbohydrates

With a serious condition like hypothyroidism, in which the body needs the highest value nutrition possible for maintenance and repair of damaged tissue, we highly recommend a raw food diet for your dog or cat. Raw food is how carnivores, like canines and felines, have evolved to eat and they do best on a quality protein, low carbohydrate diet. They also thrive on a diet with sufficient moisture. This is, unfortunately, the opposite of how most pets are fed since the majority of commercial diets are low protein with 50% or more carbohydrates and only a 5-10% moisture content (compared to 75% found in a carnivores' ancestral diet). In addition, kibble diets are harder for an animal to digest and this is the last thing hypothyroid canines and felines need at this point. Since thyroid function declines naturally as part of the aging process (not even mentioning damage from poor diet, over-vaccination, medications, topical pesticide products etc...) without the right nutrition that is easily digested, absorbed and metabolized your animal will have a more difficult time maintaining healthy thyroid function. If a raw food diet is not your cup of tea, the next best thing for animals with thyroid disease would be a cooked, whole food diet. There are now many quality premixes to choose from to which you can add your own raw or cooked meat.

Chia Seed Oil

Chia seed oil contains the plant kingdom's highest ratio of anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, particularly alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). This plant-based oil can help to improve the health of your dog or cat’s heart, skin and other areas affected by hypothyroidism. It is organic and a much more sustainable source of omega 3 fatty acids when compared with fish oil.

Iodum 30c (aka Iodium, Iodine) Homeopathic Remedy

The thyroid gland is the primary recipient of iodine from the diet. Yet, taking too much, or too little iodine, can interfere with the proper activity of this gland. For this reason using a homeopathic remedy is a very safe way to address thyroid issues.

Calcarea carbonica 6c Homeopathic Remedy

Follow directions on container and stop when you notice your dog’s behavior has improved. Dosing homeopathics is very individual and often requires an experienced homeopath. But a good rule of thumb is to use according to directions for three days and then stop. Or stop sooner if you notice a change earlier than three days. If in the days or weeks ahead you notice a return of symptoms provide another dose.

Common Causes

Nothing “just happens”; there is always a catalyst. Even if your animal is genetically predisposed to hypothyroidism, that does not mean they have to succumb too this condition. Vaccinations are a major contributor to this imbalance. Every time your dog or cat receives a vaccination, the resulting immune reaction damages tissue to some degree, and the thyroid is particularly susceptible. Speak with your veterinarian about an exemption from future rabies vaccinations. We recommend avoiding all vaccinations and instead titer and also to avoid any exposure to topical flea and tick pesticide products including collars.

Please Note:
The majority of our supplements are basically herbs and whole foods, so a little more or less will not harm your animal. When determining the dosage estimate as best you can for the weight of your animal from our suggested serving sizes.
