It sounds like you are doing a very good job with your cat under the circumstances. I am glad to see that you avoided the prescription kidney diet at this stage. These kidney diets are very low protein to address protein in urine, but at the same time lead to muscle loss and heart issues (the heart is a muscle and needs protein!). In our view and many others, these low-protein kidney diets should only be used for end-stage kidney disease, which is basically towards the end of a pet's life. Our Kidney Tonic and Heart Tonic share many similarities because the heart and kidneys are intertwined so I don't think using both would be appropriate. Instead, if you wish to use both herbal remedies, rotate them. Our Heart Glandular would be beneficial to provide heart-specific nutrients. I don't feel that your cat is a candidate for a dental cleaning due to the amount of medications used during these procedures that inevitably damage the kidneys in older animals. Because of this issue, your cat's dental disease will have to be addressed in a different manner. Since this is a fairly complicated issue for this question and answer format, please use our Pet Health Consultation Form so we have more information to better help you and your cat. Also, please request a Heart Support Help Sheet be emailed to you because we provide some heart support tips that may be useful for your cat.
