I apologize for the delay in responding to your question. Yes, your dog can use Milk Thistle Seed long term while using the medication for your dog's seizures. Even though there is information found online suggesting milk thistle can affect liver function, normal servings of milk thistle seed do not significantly affect the major cytochrome P450 (CYP450) liver enzymes in clinical trials. While laboratory test-tube (in vitro) studies often show that the active components in milk thistle (silymarin / silybin) can strongly inhibit CYP450 enzymes (particularly CYP3A4 and CYP2C9), actual clinical data tells a different story. The concentrations of milk thistle taken orally that reach the liver using standard daily doses are far too low to cause meaningful inhibition of liver function. If you decided to use higher servings of milk thistle for some reason I suggest providing the supplement and medication two hours apart from each other.
