Yes, Diatomaceous Earth will desiccate any insects that crawl though it. Larger insects, like carpenter ants, are pretty tough though and DE might not be as effective against them. There are also ant bait gels or traps, depending on the type of ants, that are effective and much safer to use than spreading toxic granules or sprays around the home.
