It is quite startling that your veterinarian would say calcium isn't important as part of a homemade diet, when it is in fact a crucial part of the diet. Of course, if you are using bone as part of the diet you may not need a calcium supplement (depending on the amount of bone) and perhaps this is what your vet meant. It is recommended that a ratio of 1:1 to 2:1 (Calcium:Phosphorus) is critical for dogs to ensure proper bone development, skeletal maintenance, and metabolic function. To meet this ratio you would mix 3/4 teaspoon of the Seaweed Calcium into twelve ounces of homemade dog food.
