Whether you open a capsule or not depends on the size of your dog or cat. Any animal under 30 lbs will need to use a partial capsule and in this case you will need to open the capsule and mix in with food. Larger dogs can just have the capsule placed in with the meal. Some animals may not mind the powder being mixed in with kibble using some water. Others pets may need some soft/wet food into which the powder can be mixed.
