Our Liver Glandular supplement can help support the health of a dog's liver by providing liver-specific nutrients. However, for a dog with a liver shunt I have additional suggestions. The first is to provide our Daily Multi Plus that provides digestive enzymes and probiotics to promote better digestion of food to take pressure off the liver. Next, our Ox Bile is a full-spectrum bile acid supplement that can be used as an alternative to the Ursodiol®. Since a liver shunt will force the kidneys to process a significantly larger amount of toxins that the liver is failing to filter in a dog with a liver shunt, I suggest our Kidney Tonic to support this organ. Finally, I suggest a healthy, whole food diet using natural/organic ingredients to take stress of of the liver and kidneys. This diet can be home-prepared, a premix to which you add your own meat or a commercially prepared whole food diet. We offer suggestions in our article How to Feed Your Dog.
