Our Seaweed Calcium is derived from the mineral-rich seaweed (red-algae) called Lithothamnion calcareum. This seaweed does not naturally contain vitamin D. Commercial calcium supplements using Lithothamnion calcareum that include vitamin D obtain it from added vitamin D usually in the form of D3 (cholecalciferol). Dogs and cats can produce vitamin D from sun exposure, but not as efficiently as humans, so they must obtain the majority of this vitamin from foods in their diet such as organ meats, egg yolks and fish.
