Despite the fear-fomenting found online, licorice root is a very safe herb for dogs and cats when used appropriately. In the Botanical Safety Handbook it states that "no case reports of adverse effects have been reported in persons using licorice root within the recommended dose (less than 50 grams daily) - that's a lot of licorice root that no person (or dog) would ever consume daily! Unless you gorge yourself on black licorice candy and this is how the concerns about licorice root arose. I am not sure of the size of your dog, however to give you an idea of how safe our Gum Rescue will be for your dog, there is only approximately one milligram (1/1000th of a gram) of licorice root in a drop of our Gum Rescue. An average dog would only use a few drops daily of the Gum Rescue making this herbal remedy very safe for all dogs and cats.
