Epakitin® contains a type of fiber called chitosan that can bind with phosphorus to help reduce this mineral to lessen the burden on failing kidneys. Unfortunately, chitosan can also bind with certain important minerals and affect their availability in the body. To answer your question, you can continue to use the Epakitin® along with our holistic kidney support protocol. However, I suggest only using Epakitin® at the end stage of disease when a dog's kidneys are having trouble properly filtering blood and excreting excess phosphorus in the urine.
