So that everyone is aware, TPLO, or Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy, is a surgical procedure used in dogs to treat cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) injuries. Yes, our Elk Velvet Antler is a good choice to support the knee joint, and as you in alluded to in your question, it is a whole food supplement with no added fillers. To more specifically support your dog's ligaments I would also add in Collagen. This supplement will provide types I & III collagen that support the structural strength of tendons and ligaments and help them to maintain their flexibility. My theory as to why ligament injuries have become so common is the use of alternative protein sources instead of meat in many commercial pet foods. These protein sources, like pea protein, do not contain all of the essential amino acids, or that are not in a nutritional profile similar to meat that carnivores like dogs and cats require. It is these amino acids that are the building blocks of collagen that is the structural support of ligaments. I can't get into it in detail here, but Glyphosate, a herbicide, is structurally similar to the amino acid glycine and can be mistaken for it during protein synthesis. This can lead to the incorporation of glyphosate into proteins instead of glycine, potentially disrupting protein structure and weakening tissue like ligaments. That is one reason it is so important to eat (and feed your pets) as much organic food as possible.
