Phenobarbital® primarily affects the brain by depressing the central nervous system (CNS), which means it slows down brain activity. This occurs mainly through its interaction with the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) system, the brain's major inhibitory neurotransmitter. None of the herbs in our Female Incontinence formula have a direct affect on GABA so this herbal remedy should be fine for your dog with seizures. If your dog's seizures are limited in nature or relatively mild you may wish to consider the Lepsilyte formula to avoid the side affects of phenobarbital®. We also suggest that dogs with seizures avoid the use of chemical flea and tick products as these can affect the neurological system of animals and have recognized potential side effects of seizures.
